Oh, by the Way . . .

Although we're a little strange in what we are trying to do, we're quite orthodox in our theology. Any of the ecumenical creeds describes pretty closely what we believe. The Apostles Creed is a good example:

I believe in God the Father almighty, the maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church, the fellowship of the saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and eternal life.

And, in case you missed it, no one has reason to question our allegiance to the Bible. She is our mother: reading her with new eyes and trying to do what she said has made us what we are. Though we allow ourselves great liberty in discussing her and dislike the tired and trite adjectives which end up confining rather than describing her, she is the one who rears us and feeds us and clothes us. She is the one who tells us the stories of God and God's people.
